UX/UI Designer (Mobile App Prototype)

Job Description:

The nth Creative is a creative studio based in Toronto providing graphic design, website design and photography services. Our mission is to provide strategic direction and creative print and digital solutions as a means of unlocking the visual potential of our clients.

 

However, as a creative entity we are also exploring a solution to help with the problem of food waste. We are developing a Food Best Before Date Reminder app that will help users keep track of the usability timelines of food within their homes to avoid wastage. We are currently in the prototyping phase of our venture and seeking a talented UX/UI designer to build an interactive app prototype that will help us start testing our app idea with potential users. The successful candidate will work directly with the Creative Director and should have an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for food and a desire to contribute to solutions that will help mitigate the negative impact of food waste on our climate.

Required Skills & Qualifications

 

  • At least 1 year experience in mobile app prototype development or in final year of a university/diploma program in interactive multimedia design or similar.

  • An understanding of user behavior, needs and expectations to create a user-friendly and intuitive prototype.

  • Proficiency in designing visual elements of the application, including layout, colour schemes, typography and graphics.

  • Ability to create wireframes that outline the structural layout and organization of the application’s screen.

  • Familiarity with prototyping tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or InVision for creating interface prototypes.

  • Ability to create interactions within the prototype to demonstrate how users will navigate and interact with the application.

  • Ability to organize content and features logically to ensure the prototype’s usability.

  • Ability to conduct usability tests with potential users to gather feedback and make improvements.

  • Proficiency in graphic design and visual aesthetics to make prototype visually appealing.

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with developers, product managers and stakeholders to convey design ideas and gather feedback.

  • Open to feedback and constructive criticism with a willingness to iterate on the prototype as the project progresses.

  • Ability to identify and solve challenges and make informed design decisions.

  • A keen eye for detail to ensure the prototype accurate represents the final product.

  • Exemplary research skills with the ability to gather and analyze user research to inform the prototype’s design decisions.

  • Ability to work independently yet able to take direction.

 

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with no-code application tools such as Bubble, Thunkable, Marvel.

  • Some knowledge of software development principles and constraints for creating prototypes that are realistics in terms of implementation.

 

 

Expected Outcomes

At the end of the project, it is expected that the prototype of the Best Before Date Food Reminder App yields the following outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate the core functionality of the app, showing how users will interact with it.

  2. Illustrate the expected user flow, including how users navigate between screens and interact with different features.

  3. Showcase the visual design of the app, including layout, typography, colour schemes and graphics as well as proper placement of content such as text, images and other media within the app’s interface.

  4. Be interactive, allowing users to click through the app and experience how different elements respond to their actions.

  5. Facilitate the collection of feedback from stakeholders and potential users to enable improvements.

  6. Conduct usability testing with potential users to identify any usability issues to refine the design.
